Hario Skerton Hand Grinder

We’ve been searching for a good burr grinder for quite a while. Finally we came across this grinder several months ago, but it was out of stock almost everywhere! It was well worth the wait, isn’t it so cute? The Hario Skerton hand grinder has ceramic conical burrs that can be adjusted according to the type of brew method you are using.

The ability to adjust the burrs allows a more uniform particle size that will produce a better, cleaner tasting coffee. This grinder is an essential for camping trips, traveling or your counter at home. We’d love to help you learn how to use it, ask us how when you come in next. Also check out Gimme! Coffee’s awesome slideshow (scroll down, look for the slideshow link) explaining the parts of Hario Skerton grinder.

Love my Hario! It took my home espresso up a big notch–maybe one day I’ll reach Crema-level flavor. At least I’m a little closer now!

You can get crema-level flavor using the Skerton, I have. Two of the biggest ’secrets’–fresh beans, within seven days of roasting, adjust your grinder to get 2 oz. in 20 to 25 seconds, then carefully, mark where your adjustment cog is, then, without moving the burrs at all, take the handle and adjustment cog off, and switch the .030 clear washer that sits on top of the mounting with a .035 washer, you can probably find something at a hardware store that will do. Then carefully replace the adjustment cog and locking washer EXACTLY where it was before. This will get you one half step finer on the grind, and will get you the most tasty ristretto pull. Keep the brew temp the same as when you pulled the other shots, and you’ll see some PHAT crema!
